studies in Israel
have developed considerably in recent years. At present, three major
universities (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, TelAvivUniversity and The University of Haifa)
offer comprehensive BA and MA programs in Japanese studies. In addition,
academic and linguistic courses on Japan are offered in a number of
other universities and colleges.
Relative to its population, Israel has a surprisingly
large number of researchers and students in the field of Japanese studies. In this context,
we felt the need for a cross-institutional association which would accommodate
the growing needs of researchers and students in the field, help maintain a dynamic
community, and initiate collaborations with similar associations elsewhere.
